In the spirit of honoring the whole animal, we are proud to offer our unique sheep pelts. Once an animal is harvested, we collect the hides from the butcher and bring them back to the farm where we flesh and salt the hides ourselves. After the salting process, we send them to a custom tannery where we let the pros finish the process. The tannery uses an electrified tanning process which can take anywhere between 4 to 6 months and the result is truly amazing! The type of sheep we raise, Katahdin sheep, have unique hide colors and their coat can range from short to long depending on the time of year they are processed. This means each pelt has a unique coloring pattern, pile, and shape with most of the pelts tapering down to a very low pile around the edges. Every hide is unique and a true one of a kind piece to add to your home.
